Protecting your memories from AI

You share a photo of your child with your family, for your family. Here is what we do to keep it that way, and where our control ends.

The short answer

Here is what FutureRoots does and does not do with your family's photos, videos and voices. We also tell you where our control ends, because once someone saves a copy, what they do with it is up to them.

What we do not do

  • We do not use your photos, videos, voice recordings or messages to train artificial-intelligence models, whether ours or anyone else's.
  • We do not sell your family's memories, and we do not license them to anyone.
  • We do not use facial recognition. We do not measure or store anyone's face, and nothing in FutureRoots works out who is in a photo.
  • Right now, nothing your family saves is sent to any artificial-intelligence service.
  • We do not run ads, and we do not use ad trackers.

If we ever offer a feature that uses an outside AI service, we will not send any child's information to it unless a parent or guardian has turned that on for that child, separately. We will tell you plainly what would be sent before you decide, and we will update this page first.

How your memories are kept private

  • Children do not have accounts. A child is a profile that a parent or guardian looks after, and only people in your family, invited by you, can open it.
  • Photos and videos live in private storage that is closed to the public internet and encrypted.
  • Every time a photo is opened, we check again that you are an active member of that family and allowed to see it. Anyone else cannot open it.
  • Photos open through links that expire within minutes.
  • Family pages ask search engines not to list them, and there is no public search for families.
  • Our team can open a support view of an account when a family asks for help. It ends after thirty minutes, and each one is recorded.
  • When you delete a memory, the file is removed from storage. A removed memory can be put back for up to a year first, and encrypted backups keep a copy for a short while longer, as our Privacy Policy explains.

What we cannot control

This part matters as much as everything above. We would rather you know it now than find it out later.

  • Someone in your family can screenshot or download a photo you shared with them. Once they have, it is theirs to look after, and we cannot take it back.
  • If someone uploads a saved photo to another tool, including an AI tool, we cannot see it and we cannot stop it.
  • If you make a certificate link and choose to include a picture, anyone holding that link can see the picture until you turn the link off.
  • If someone else gets into a family member's account or phone, they can see what that member could see.
  • If a court or the law requires us to give something up, we may have to.
  • We use trusted companies to run FutureRoots, such as Amazon for storage. They handle information only on our behalf, under contract.
  • No system is perfectly secure. What we can do is tell you plainly what we do and what we do not.

If something goes wrong

If you find a photo of your child being misused, or you think something here is not as we describe, write to privacy@futureroots.app. We will write back.

If we change these commitments in a way that matters to you, we will tell you first. You can read the full detail in our Privacy Policy, and see how we check that a memory is unchanged on How we protect your memories.
